About Benjamin Marc Stephens

I believe that my greatest strength as as teacher is my ability to break concepts down and explaining them in a way that students can relate to, helping them overcome any misconceptions or difficulties they might have. I like to work with students on problems rather that talk at them, using a “model / your turn” approach to demonstrating concepts and an interactive whiteboard to provide an interesting and engaging learning environment.
The “model / your turn” approach allows students to be shown solutions to problems in real time, helping to solidify their understanding and allowing them to see what they need to do at each stage and ask questions if necessary. Students are then provided with a similar problem to practice the method they have just seen with immediate feedback, before moving on to further practice questions or a slightly different problem.

I have a joint honours degree in Sports Science and Mathematics, and have been a qualified mathematics teacher since 2015, working as a classroom teacher, small-group tutor and head of department.

Find out more about Benjamin Marc Stephens

Where did your interest in GCSE tutoring begin?

I have worked as a maths teacher for a while, and have spent most of my career "in the classroom". i always preferred working with individuals/small groups of students, which lead to the idea of becoming a tutor instead.

What was it about your teaching subject that led you to online GCSE tutoring?

Working online allows me to work with lots of different students, as well as make use of online features that aren't always available in person.

When choosing a tutor for GCSE, what qualities should a good tutor have?

They should be patient, encouraging and easy to work with. I believe that I possess all of these qualities, and can really make a difference difference to the students that I teach.

How beneficial can a private tutor be when studying for GCSE?

Very! whether it's to boost knowledge of a particular topic or general exam practice, a private tutor can really focus on the individual student's needs, rather than the needs of an entire class.

What support do you provide as a GCSE Tutor?

I can provide support with, general exam practice (such as working through past papers), particular topics that the student struggles with, or just general teaching throughout the academic year to supplement what the stident learns in the classroom
