Currently, I Have 5+ years experience teaching mathematics at a Secondary School and I consider myself a Maths enthusiast who is keen to enhance the learning of students.

My approach to tutoring is to identify underlying misconceptions students may hold and use this to tailor and personalise my sessions to meet individual needs. I am patient and a good listener which allows me to understand the problems that my students encounter. I also focus on helping students develop confidence when tackling and solving problems. Working directly with the new GCSE specification allows me to help students work towards achieving or exceeding their target grades. I have 4 years experience tutoring and I have received consistent and positive feedback.

Where did your interest in GCSE tutoring begin?

Having over 6+ years teaching experience in maths I have gained a number of skills that are beneficial to those students who may need extra support of even a boost. My desire to help others inspired me to reach out further and use my skills to help those not only in the classroom. I wanted to help gcse students overcome insurmountable challenges and be proud of their academic achievements.

What was it about your teaching subject that led you to online GCSE tutoring?

during covid, I was required to adapt my scheme of work in maths so students were able to access their learning online. I began experimenting with different softwares and web functions such as Microsoft teams and found how effective online lessons were for my students. gcse students already have a vast amount of work they need to complete outside of school and being able to learn from the comfort of their own home meant students were often more engaged and also confident when asking questions. my passion for maths allowed me to set up online sessions that were not only limited to the U.K. And also gave me the opportunity to help students from a number of different backgrounds.

Tutors should focus on helping students develop confidence when tackling and solving problems.

How beneficial can a private tutor be when studying for GCSE?

Private tutors are able to provide individual support for their GCse students. gcse students often can become overwhelmed by the preparation for GcSes. As A private Tutor I am able to relive this pressure by providing structure and help organise their time efficiently. I take a holistic approach when dealing with gcse students and help to boost their confidence. I am able to identify gaps that students need to revisit and provide them with enough practice which leaves them with a sense of achievement. I also allow students to have the opportunity to warm up at the beginning of their lesson and provide them with small wins so they are able to begin with a positive mindset.

What support do you provide as a GCSE Tutor?

Working directly with the new GCSE specification allows me to help students work towards achieving or exceeding their target grades. I have also marked GcSe papers for Edexcel for two years, therefore I am able to use this knowledge to ensure students are answering questions in accordance to the mark scheme, thus maximising on the marks achieved.
