Where did your interest in GCSE tutoring begin?

I started tutoring 8 years ago which coincided with the new Scheme of Work and the introduction of the 1-9 grading system.

Prior to the pandemic I offered some online tuition but mainly Face to Face. Subsequently I have adapted to full-time online tuition and have found that it is just as effective and now backed up by research.

How beneficial can a private tutor be when studying for GCSE?

Gaps in knowledge, misperceptions and progress are at least three times faster. The student gains confidence improves self esteem and achieves the grades they want. Tutors turn” can’ts” into CAN!

What support do you provide as a GCSE Tutor?

I have 15 years’ experience of teaching and tuition. My Master’s thesis on teaching Scientific Vocabulary developed techniques that I apply constantly. Vocabulary is an area that I find most students have difficulty with. I’m patient and build rapport quickly with students. Having had a career outside teaching also assists in being more holistic in my approach. The “AHA” moment when a student finally understands a problem, makes my day.
